Rev. Bobby Lam

Senior Pastor of HCBC

After 28 years in the ministry, I see myself as a servant leader for Christ. I came to know the Lord in the Christian Fellowship of my secondary school. Upon completing high school, I went to Kuala Lumpur to pursue my career in accountancy. After working in the secular world for 8 years, I committed myself to full-time ministry at Kuala Lumpur Baptist Church (KLBC) to serve under the mentorship of the Senior Pastor. I trusted the Lord’s guidance and started my ministerial work with no theological training but a willing heart to learn and be trained.

Siloam_House In 1990, I was called to pastor the Filipino Christian Fellowship in KLBC for 6 years. While pastoring the congregation, I felt the need to be theologically equipped for ministry and in 1987, I attended the Urban Theological Course provided by MBTS to equip pastors in Klang Valley. In 1996, I graduated with a Certificate of Ministry. In 1998, I was challenged and called to pastor a satellite church for KLBC in Cheras. After much prayer, I answered the call and planted a satellite church at Ue3. It grew over the years and eventually moved to Taman Cheras Utama, where we changed our name to Kuala Lumpur Baptist Cheras Centre (KLBCC). In 2001, I continued my theological study in MBTS Penang while pastoring the church at the same time. In 2004, I graduated with a Bachelor of Theology. These were probably the most difficult years of my life in ministry as I had to study and pastor a church at the same time. Looking back, these were the years I experienced God’s immeasurable grace as I learned how to shepherd a church.

Rev_Bobby_Jonathans_Wedding Pastoring KLBCC over a period of 16 years, I have seen the blessings and faithfulness of God in guiding and providing for the church to reach the community in Cheras for Christ. God has laid upon my heart a deep conviction to equip the saints and engage with the community for Christ. That’s the reason why KLBCC is a vibrant and engaging church when it comes to evangelism and community work. We started a child development centre, a social medical service, and a language learning centre to engage with the community. In January 1, 2015, KLBCC became an independent church to pursue God’s calling for us to serve the community here in Cheras, and we took on the name Hope Community Baptist Church (HCBC).

I am married to Elaine for 29 years and have three very gifted children: Dorcas, Joseph and Samuel. They have all graduated and are faithfully serving the Lord.
